What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic focuses on spine and other joints in the body and their connection to the nervous system. By identifying dysfunctional areas of the spine and joints, the goal is to restore function to these areas. This allows proper communication between the brain and the body, allowing healing to take place.

What is a chiropractic adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is a safe, specific, and controlled force that is applied to the spine or joint to restore function and movement. Our office offers manual adjusting through the Diversified and Thompson drop techniques, which are done by hand and the most common way of adjusting. We also offer activator adjusting, which is a tool-based adjustment and a more gentle way of adjusting for those who may not want the “cracking” way of adjusting or their body cannot handle aggressive adjustments.

what can chiropractic help with?

Chiropractic is most known for being able to help with back pain, but it can help in many ways that people are unaware of. Research has shown that chiropractic can help with neck pain, headaches, and many extremity complaints. Chiropractic is also safe and cost-effective, and it avoids the use of opioids. Many acute and chronic issues are caused by dysfunction of the spine and musculoskeletal system; chiropractic can address these issues and often provide relief from acute and chronic issues.

therapies

The body is connected and integrated from head to toe. In order to further address the dysfunction and imbalance in the body, we may integrate muscle therapies into your care. These therapies may include e-stim, stretches, exercises, and ultrasound. These are done to compliment the adjustment and to further improve function.

E-stim

E-stim is a commonly used modality that assists in muscles relaxing that are guarded or spasmodic. Heat is also added to further help the relaxation of the affected muscle. During this modality, four pads are placed along the back and the stim is turned up until a “strong but comfortable” strength is achieved. E-stim is not recommended for those are pregnant or have pacemakers.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound therapy uses sound waves to penetrate soft tissue to help musculoskeletal issues heal faster by drawing blood to the area, encouraging the healing process. This therapy is also known to help resolve issues related to arthritic changes, tendinopathies, and bursitis.

Therapeutic stretching

Commonly utilized in our office, stretching allows us to address tightened muscles and fascia that often limit ROM, flexibility, and strength. Stretching often helps to relieve pain and discomfort by stimulating the nerves in the muscles. After stretching, we will often show you how to stretch at home which will help to mobilize the spine.

Myofascial release

Fascia is a unique type of tissue that is wrapped around the muscles and throughout the body. This unique network of tissue can sometimes bundle together, creating tightened regions and become quite painful. There are several ways to release fascia including hand-ons release and instrument-assisted release.
